Beginning January 1, 2012, Illinois consumers and manufacturers must recycle TVs, computers, video games, VCRs, computer mice, fax machines and much other electronic equipment, or they potentially will face a steep fine. The used items cannot be discarded at landfills, nor are garbage haulers required to pick them up if they’re left at the curb. The State of Illinois and many municipalities are increasing the number of drop-off sites where anyone can drop off used electronics. Many stores that sell electronics will also accept used items for recycling.
